Air bubble film is polyethylene film formed with regularly spaced air pockets that cushion light impacts and surface abrasion. It is inexpensive and versatile for wrapping and void fill, but the bubbles deflate under sustained load, limiting it to lighter goods.
Two layers of polyethylene are laminated so that one is formed into a grid of sealed air pockets. Those pockets compress on impact and provide a cushioning layer at very low weight and cost.
It is best used for surface protection and light-duty cushioning — wrapping components, separating painted or plated surfaces, filling voids inside a carton, and protecting goods against abrasion in short-distance transit.
The limitation is sustained loading. Bubbles gradually lose air under continuous pressure and offer little protection once flattened, so bubble film is not a substitute for engineered foam under heavy products or for long multi-leg journeys.
Anti-static (pink) bubble film is available for electronics, and laminated grades bonded to kraft or metallised film add strength or barrier properties.

How is an air bubble roll specified?
An air bubble roll is specified by bubble diameter (10, 20 or 30 mm), film thickness in micron, roll width and roll length, plus any lamination such as kraft, foil or anti-static treatment. Small bubbles suit light surface protection and interleaving; large bubbles suit void fill and cushioning of heavier items.
Bubble wrap or EPE foam — which protects better?
EPE foam protects better under weight and over long journeys because it recovers after impact and does not deflate. Bubble film is cheaper and fine for light goods, surface protection and void fill in short-distance transit.
